2. The Settler

When the settlers arrived in Iceland during the second half of the ninth century, they brought along horses.
Most of the time, living in Iceland would not have been possible without horses, as transport and communication depended upon them. The horses that the settlers brought needed to be reliable and strong to survive in their new home. As a result, the Icelandic horse has become the national treasure we know today.
